The Walt Disney Castle!
Wah! Just like the ones in all the movies, so grand! Reminds me of when I was small, watching the cartoons with my family. So many memories! I think we should try to recreate some of that Disney magic at home. Maybe not the castle itself, too hard lah! But definitely some yummy treats! Let’s try to make a Mickey Mouse shaped dessert. Something simple and sweet, yeah?
### Mickey Mouse Chocolate Crispy Treats
Okay, this one easy-peasy, lemon squeezy! You don’t even need to turn on the oven! Just melting chocolate and some crispy rice cereal. Perfect for little ones to help too, ah?
Ingredients:
- 6 cups crispy rice cereal (like Rice Krispies, okay?)
- 10 ounces mini marshmallows (the really tiny ones, the better!)
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
- 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips (or dark chocolate, if you fancy!)
- Red food coloring (for Mickey’s shorts, very important!)
- White candy melts (for making the buttons, so cute!)
- Vegetable oil (just a little for greasing the pan!)
Instructions:
- Prepare the pan: Grease a 9x13 inch pan with a little vegetable oil. This will prevent everything from sticking. No sticky situations, okay?
- Melt the marshmallows and butter: In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the mini marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth. Keep stirring, or they will burn! Burned marshmallows no good!
- Add the cereal: Remove the marshmallow mixture from the heat and quickly stir in the crispy rice cereal. Make sure everything is coated evenly. This is the workout part! Stir, stir, stir!
- Press into the pan: Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and press down firmly and evenly. Use the back of a spoon to help, make sure to grease the spoon too. You want a nice, flat surface.
- Melt the chocolate: In a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips until smooth. If using the microwave, heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, to prevent burning. Patience, patience!
- Color the chocolate: Divide the melted chocolate into two bowls. Add red food coloring to one bowl and stir until you get a nice, even red color. This will be for Mickey’s shorts! Don’t overdo the coloring, just a little bit!
- Decorate: Spread the red chocolate over about one-third of the crispy treat mixture. Then, spread the remaining (uncolored) chocolate over the rest.
- Add the buttons: Melt the white candy melts according to package directions. Using a small spoon or piping bag, create two small white circles on the red chocolate section to resemble Mickey’s buttons. So cute!
- Chill and cut: Let the crispy treats chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is set. Once set, cut into Mickey Mouse shapes using a cookie cutter. If you don’t have a Mickey Mouse cutter, you can just cut into squares or rectangles. No problem!
